Recently I saw the Northern Lights and at one point they looked like a veil separating dimensions. For a short while I had a feeling of vastness – of dimensions beyond dimensions!
It was a moment of AWWW. A wonderful moment, when you realise the truth of something bigger than all of us here on earth. Something beautiful and creative. Full of Bliss and colour, full of movement and joy.
It’s de-light-full and vast. It mirrors the vastness of the mind. The universe has no boundaries, neither does the mind. No scientist ever plucked a ‘mind’ from a human’s head and said, ‘Here is the mind, this tangible thing.’ No! instead it is also infinite and boundless like the universe.
It may not feel like that when you are repeating some negative drama to yourself over and over again. Then the mind may feel so small as you become stuck in a repetitive line of negative thinking. However these imaginary boundaries of the mind are self created by your thoughts.
How amazing is it to know that thoughts arise, exist and dissolve. They’re not permanent, even though it may feel like they are, as they become stuck in your head, like gum to the bottom of your shoe.
It takes determination and will power to pull the gum off and to let your feet roll on the earth with a bounce as you walk the path. In other words to let your mind be free.
Thoughts can seem endless, unstoppable at times. Then you need awareness. Awareness and acknowledgment of what your thinking about. Ask yourself throughout the day:
‘What am I thinking about?’ or ‘What is going on in my mind?’ Can I stand back and take a wider look? Can I label an emotion?
As I raise my energy I realise how the thoughts that pull me down and lower my energy throughout the day are not very helpful.
Many thoughts can be very unhelpful as to how you see yourself, or how you function in the world for example: OCD, anxiety, paranoia, neuroticism, these ways of thinking contract the mind. Here we must remember that thoughts don’t dictate who we are, because they are impermanent – they arise, exist and dissolve. (people with any of the above disorders may require counselling or psychiatric help.)
Be like the vast sky and explore the boundless horizons of the mind. Be a spectator of your thoughts, like clouds passing through the boundless mind. Be with the feeling of infinity for a breath, or maybe 2 breaths or maybe 15 seconds or more. Practice, practice practice. This is how you explore the boundless horizons of the mind. Full of Bliss and colour, full of movement and joy.
