YOGA
I am passionate about Yoga and the health and self esteem benefits it can bring to everyone. I was originally certified as a Yoga Teacher in 2002 by the Yoga Training and Therapy Centre. Since then I have completed several advanced Teacher Trainings with world leading Hatha and Somatic teachers. It has been said ”Yoga is the perfect oppertunity to be curious about who you are.” I have certainly found this to be true and the journey of discovery continues to be positively life changing in every aspect of my life.
Since 2002 I have completed Advanced Training with leading teachers from The School of Body-Mind Centring including Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, Lisa Peterson and Donna Farhi.
In 2012 I became a certified Yoga Therapist which gave me the knowledge and experience to create bespoke programmes to help an individual with physical or mental health problems. Such a programme typically includes Yoga movement, breath work and meditation practices.
In 2015 I specialised in Yoga for Adults with Special Needs with the school of Special Yoga.
I really enjoy Teaching weekly Yoga classes in my local community and offering specialised Yoga sessions to different organisations and mental health chariites. I facilitate Mindfulness and Yoga sessions and courses for the South Eastern Trust.
Offering Workshops and Retreats is a passion for me and part of my repertoire.
Mindfulness
I have always been interested in the working of our minds, right back to my student days when I graduated with a BA Hons in Psychology.
I have been teaching Mindfulness and Meditation Courses and Workshops for over 8 years , privately and as Facilitator.
During 2020 I completed a Certificate in Trauma Sensitive Mindfulness with David Treleaven and this training has equipped me to work with people undergoing current or past trauma while practicing mindfulness, by offering modifications to practices. Dealing with your own Trauma can help you build resilience and resources to manage further challenges that come along.
I am particularly interested in Mindfulness for Children and have completed 2 Teacher Training courses with Youth Mindfulness to be able to deliver –
- The Soma programme for 12 – 21 years. Young people need to feel safe and free from judgement to explore mindfulness. This course is flexible and full of activities that are designed to foster interaction, connection and trust.
- Youth mindfulness Kids Teacher Training for 7 – 11 years. This course is filled with games, videos, and activities that make mindfulness interesting and inspiring.
I regularly visit the wonderful Mandala Yoga Ashram in Wales to experience deeper meditation practices. This is a very special place that embraces a fully mindful, healthy lifestyle and which I try to practice in my everyday life.
